Applicants are being taken for a new coach. Talk is that Johnnie McMurray, Ron Calcagni, and maybe Matt Wallace (Red Parker's grandson) has applied. What are some of your thoughts on the applicants?

I don't have a horse in this race but if I was doing the hiring I'd go for Calcagni first. He's bring lots of good publicity with him. McMurray is too close to the end of his career. Bad thing about both of those choices is I don't either one would be in Hamburg long. McMurray is close to retirement and Calcagni would most likely bolt for the best available job in a 2 or 3 years. Don't have a clue about the wallace guy. He does come from a good background though.

You'd have to take a long, hard look at Calcagni just because of his name, but there are some snags that could prevent his hiring and I'm not 100 percent sure that he's even a serious applicant. Nor am I sure that he's the best one in the pool.
There are a couple of fairly-attractive assistants, if program success is the most-important measuring stick.

Anybody who works at Alma deserves automatic consideration.
